About Me

February 10, 2009 · 17 comments

My name is Ryan (yes, despite my name, I am a girl! :D ). I am a 23-year-old graduate student pursuing my M.Ed. in Instructional Technology. When I’m not in school I am a nanny/babysitter and I volunteer for Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership. From time to time I have freelance graphic design projects that I work on as well. I started Greens for Good after I became inspired by how my previous blog, Chase Daylight, helped me change my once unhealthy lifestyle. For more information on this and my blog in general, please visit my welcome page.

I used to be very concerned about the kinds of foods I was putting in my body. I loved the idea of eating an all-organic, whole foods diet in high school while I was still living with my parents. When college started I was unsure of how that lifestyle fit in with my new dorm environment. I had little place to put my food and literally no place to cook it. Even when I eventually moved to a condo with a fully-functional kitchen, those eating habits stuck with me.

When I started Chase Daylight in November 2008, I was still very much still stuck in my old habits. I considered juice to be my fruit (and sometimes vegetable) source for the day. The best vegetable I ate was some asparagus and maybe a can of green beans. I had some idea what trans fats were (thanks to my boyfriend, Evan), but often didn’t see the point in putting the time into checking labels for certain ingredients that could be harmful to me. Chase Daylight was my personal shove in the right direction and I will be forever grateful for giving this gift to myself.

As you will see on Greens for Good, I have come very far from my early Chase Daylight days. It has been 8 months (as of July 2009) since I first started blogging and I don’t think Greens for Good could possibly come at a better time for me. I’ve recently graduated with my Bachelor’s degree, I’ve moved to Orlando, FL to live with my boyfriend, Evan, and I am attending graduate school for the next year and a half in a program centered around the use of technology (and blogging!). In April of 2009, I also began to follow a vegan-based diet and that has changed my outlook on health immensely (more about this on the welcome page).

As always, if you have any questions or comments, I’d love to hear them! Please visit my contact page and let me know what’s on your mind. Thanks for reading!

I remember hearing about Chasing Daylight around the blogworld but never checked it out for whatever reason…I’m glad I’ve found you now! Greens for Good sounds like a great fresh start!

I’m so glad I found you! I’ve been experimenting with vegan eating this month and I’m planning to go 100% in October. I found you through Lindsey’s (Mrs. LC) blog :)

Hi Ryan,
I enjoyed meeting you at the marathon. I’m Caitlin’s mom and this is my first visit to your blog. WOW! Very nice indeed.

Thank you for capturing your friends in the race through your pictures – so many of us have enjoyed the experience again & again through them. You have many talents and are a positive influence on many people. Keep up the good work.

Hi Ryan –

I am Evan’s cousin Bill’s wife (that’s a mouthful). Lynn gave me your Greens for Good card when we were all in Ohio last week for Bill’s grandmother’s funeral. This is a great site and so informative! I am not a vegan, but the food you’ve photographed looks incredible! So glad Lynn passed this on to me, and we hope to get down to FL again soon!! Our best to Evan (and Derek & Dana, too)

Hi Ryan,
I love your name (I’ve always loved the name Ryan for a girl) and I really love your blog. You do an awesome job with it. I’m currently transitioning into a healthy mostly vegan diet so this is such a great resource for me. I love reading about how it changed your life. I read a few of your current posts and I wanted to tell you that I hope Harvey feels better very soon! I have a beautiful cat named Beau and I’m so protective of him, so I can’t imagine how hard it must be. I hope everything goes well. xoxo Lauren

Hey Ryan,
First of all you have a great name! My dear wife and I have been on the Eat To Live, Greens and Beans lifestyle for three weeks now and were are never going back to another way again. Our lives have changed so much for the better in so many ways. I am looking forward to exploring your site more for many “Greens” ideas.

Bon appetite!
CCR

Hey Ryan! Were you at the Greenfest Yoga today? I thought so but I decided not to ask, because I figured if it wasn’t you I’d completely creep out a poor, unsuspecting yogi!

@Faith @ LovelyAsCharged, LOL! Yeah I was there! Were you right next to me? Watching me freak over my BURNING mat? I was definitely not in great form yesterday during that ordeal. It hurt so much! Say “hi” next time though! :)

You have such a great story! I can relate to the ‘boy’s’ name and for five years I was a library media specialist/instructional technology resource AND then completely changed my attitude towards food and fueling myself. And your sweet stories of Harvey and your new little ones are just plain lovely. Looking forward to more!
