Miss Friday’s recap? Miss Saturday’s recap?

As I was saying…Sunday morning’s wakeup call came rather early. 4 AM! Why? I went to Ashley’s FIRST MARATHON with her! I wanted to show as much support as possible and also got to photograph her experience. Check out her race recap for more on this amazing feat.

I had a slice of pumpkin pie for breakfast. By far, my favorite thing in the world for breakfast.

Ashley picked me up by 5 AM and we drove to Lithia, Florida where Ashley was to run her marathon on a trail! The sun was just coming up over the trees.

Ashley was both excited and nervous!

Picking up her packet and proclaiming the “marathon” as her race distance of choice. Very exciting!

Race t-shirts are always exciting, aren’t they?

We had time to pose for a picture together! I’m usually the one behind the camera so it’s rare that you’ll find me in any of my photos.

Then she was off! (Ashley, I forgot to send this picture to you…it’s pretty blurry from cropping it way down, but let me know if you want it)

I had about 4 hours to kill and actually had to do Job #1 on my computer. I have an air card for work now, but it wouldn’t connect out in the forest, so I headed to a Panera I’d spotted 15 minutes down the road.

I got an everything bagel with peanut butter and some orange juice. I checked the ingredients on all of their bagels and found that they all contain L-cysteine which can be animal-derived. I had no other options for food, so I settled for the best one available to me. Sometimes being vegan means being flexible. I’d have rather take my chances eating a little L-cysteine than deprive my body of food for an entire morning. Ultimately, I am a vegan for the benefits of my health and when I make decisions like this, being healthy is at the top of my priority list.

Anyway, I got some work done at Panera and before I knew it I was driving back to the race to watch Ashley finish!

She was so happy, relieved and surprised to be done (see her post to find out why).

I was extremely excited and happy for her! Yay Ashley!!

We decided Whole Foods would be a perfect place for a post-marathon lunch.

As usual I grabbed what looked good and what was vegan without taking note of the specific names. Oh well, looks good right?!

All with a fabulous Honest Tea!

It was an incredible day spent with my beautiful, strong friend! Congratulations Ashley!!!

Tonight I am packing and leaving early tomorrow morning for North Carolina, where I will spend Thanksgiving with all of my family. I’ll definitely be blogging, but I’m not sure of the schedule yet. I’m sure you’ll hear from me tomorrow on Twitter though!

Have a great night!

Way to go Ryan! sherpa’ing for Ashley must have been fun, and you are a good friend for doing that.

Hi Ashley! Congratuations on completing the marathon. We couldn’t help but notice your picture and posting of Black Forest Berry. There’s a Steve Prefonatine quote under our lids that we’ll share with you: “Some people run a race to see who is the fastest. I run a race to see who has the most guts.” Congrats on having the guts! ~ Honest Tea-m

Hi Honest Tea! Ashley completed the marathon and I’ll make sure I pass on your note about the quote to her. I (Ryan @ Greens for Good) love your Honest Tea and post about it quite a bit. You should look around for my reviews :)
