**I won’t be recapping much tonight, but I hope you’ll read about all of the announcements I have to make!
It’s always so hard to think of a way to accurately portray the events of a few missed days of blogging. When I first started blogging (and when I first started up again with G4G), I used to get writer’s block, thought I had nothing to write about and furthermore, nothing important to say that anyone would really care about. After having to devote an entire notebook to blogging ideas and having Ashley tell me that she’s getting really sick of seeing the Impromptu Chili title on the top of my page (hahah), I realize that none of those things are true. I do have so many ideas and I do have people who care about what (and when) I post. When I literally cannot devote the time I need to the ideas I have, I really start to wish there was more time in a day. Such is life, though! Anyway, all of that to say, I’m hoping to make more time for blogging in the future. I really enjoy posting everyday and I should make more time for things that I enjoy doing. Right?!
On that note, I am forgoing a normal post because I have some announcements to make that certainly affect my time and where I make things a priority.
Announcement #1
A couple of days ago I was offered an opportunity I cannot pass up. Amongst everything else that is going on right now, I want to try to tackle it. Part of me thinks I’m crazy and slightly delusional for believing that I can take on one more thing, but the other part of me is telling me that I won’t know until I try. And…I really want to try. I’m always looking for reasons to improve my time management skills and I think this is just another. I have a history of doing much better when I have more things to keep me in check than less. I also believe this coming week is perfect for a first attempt because I have Monday, Wednesday and Friday off from Job #2 and school. I’m quite excited and I hope you’ll follow along with me when I make it official (might take a week or more).
I know I’m being such a tease, but I wanted to get out my thoughts before I make it official. Thank you so much for being patient! Instead, I will announce the super secret project I’ve been alluding to for months now in Announcement #2!

Announcement #2
Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY), Mid-Florida Seminar
First a little background on HOBY:
- Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (www.hoby.org) is an organization that I’ve been volunteering with for four years. The organization has so of the most amazing people I have ever met in my life. Every single one of them is a go-getter, hoping to change the world.
- HOBY brings together high school sophomores for a seminar in their local area each spring. HOBY enhances leadership skills in young leaders and teaches them how to think, not what to think. Ambassadors leave HOBY seminars with a contagious enthusiasm for helping in their communities and trying to change the world.
- Our students (we call them Ambassadors) are the best of the best in the entire country. There will be approximately 140 of them at our local seminar in Haines City, FL and each is nominated by their high school as someone who exemplifies leadership and a commitment to serving their communities.
This year, the Mid-Florida HOBY Seminar experienced a transitional period in terms of leadership. Some of the people who have been in charge in previous years have decided to step down for one reason or another. Enough of them stepped down that an entirely new team had to be pulled together at the last minute. That’s where I come in, along with my friends Callyn and Justin. The three of us are planning and executing the entire seminar for 140 Ambassadors and 40 volunteer staff members, and it’s no small task. It will take place May 20-23, 2010 and we are so excited! Callyn is the Seminar Chairperson (aka BOSS
), Justin is the Director of Staff and Development and I am the Director of Operations.
Here’s where you come in:
- Group Facilitators: If you are 21 or older, live in FL (or would like to come take a vacation!), we’d love to have you come volunteer as a group facilitator. This role means that you will be in charge of a small group of students. You will help develop their leadership and overall independent thinking, as well as create bonds in your group through small activities. We will train you for everything! If you’re open for an incredibly fulfilling experience that our Ambassadors say changes their lives, send me an email through the contact form.
- Speakers: If you have an inspirational story and would like to come share tips to our Ambassadors on how they can make a change in the world, send me an email through the contact form.
Fun details:
- Volunteering for HOBY is an excellent resume builder! I always feel so confident applying for anything because of the leadership roles and experiences I have been provided through HOBY. We want to give you the same opportunities!
- We provide all accommodations during the seminar and food!
- Caitlin has tentatively agreed to come and speak about Operation Beautiful and how she’s changed the world through a simple act! YAY!
Logistical Info:
- Staff training will take place the evening of Thursday, May 20, 2010.
- The seminar begins Friday, May 21, 2010 and ends May 23,1010.
- Takes place at the Florida FFA Leadership Training Center in Haines City, Florida (between Tampa and Orlando)

I had an awesome ladies lunch with Lindsey, Ashley, Megan and Katy today at Infusion Tea where I ate enough to feed a man. I went to power yoga classes last night and this morning and I was just incredibly starved after all of that. Check out my two plates:

Ate ever last bite! Haha. I felt great afterward, not overfull, which makes me believe I was lacking some food intake!

Love these girls! We talked for 3 hours!!!!

Sweet Lindsey made us mini cookies!! Yumm! Evan loved them too when I brought some home. Thanks girl!

A fabulous lunch for all of us Foodbuzz Featured Publishers #NotInSF
