Updates and The Biggest Loser (TBL)
Hi everyone! Thanks for hanging in there with me during this transitional period of my life. Sometimes there just isn’t time to do everything I want to do in a day. In a perfect world, I would be in my kitchen all of the time making exciting dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and blogging about all of them! Unfortunately, that just isn’t real life (well, not my life anyway). I’m accepting that I don’t have time for perfect food and blogging three times a day and you know what? It’s okay…I’m going to make the most of it! I’m very happy with the way things are going, despite my exhaustion and constantly having something to do. I think it makes the downtime way more meaningful when I do get it, you know? I’m sure I’ll break into a routine shortly here and the dust will settle.
On that note, Wednesdays are very busy for me. Yesterday I woke up at 5:30 AM, immediately started work on job #1 (new job) until 8:30 AM, then jetted off to a 90 minute power yoga class. Holy crap this kicked my butt. I was feeling a little defeated at different points in the practice, but I’m sure it was because I was exhausted, as this defeated haze kind of fell over me all day. Regardless, I still felt amazing after the class (and sore!). I quickly went home and finished up job #1 (there were technical difficulties earlier in the morning). I showered, got ready and then drove to Tampa for my graduate class. Luckily we got out early and I was home by 9:15 PM last night!
Today I was up early again and worked until 8:30 AM. Instead of yoga (I can’t take two days in a row of these classes yet–they’re too hard!), I took my time getting ready for job #2 (babysitting). I was able to relax for about 45 minutes while I finished watching the last bit of The Biggest Loser from Tuesday night on the DVR. I love the show, the message behind it, and the people for their willingness to turn their lives around! However, the first few episodes of a season are hauntingly similar to the people on WALL-E and it makes me sad that America even has to have a show like TBL. I think Evan has been trying to tell me that this is what he thinks too, but it wasn’t until I thought of WALL-E and about other countries in the world that I got what he was saying. Yeah, Americans do tend to be glutonous and thus we need a show like TBL to kind of propel society in the other direction. Thoughts?

Grass Root Restaurant Review
Since my meals haven’t been very interesting lately — I haven’t had a Green Monster in DAYS (it makes me so sad to type that) — I wanted to share with you a meal I had while visiting Evan in Lakeland (where he was working all last week) on Friday night. We had a little date at Grass Root! This is the second time I’ve been to Grass Root (check out the first time here) and their menu seemed even more enticing this time around. Maybe I was hungrier? No, that’s not possible…Perhaps it’s because they have really great food? Yep! That’s it!
Upon arrival, we were greeted by one of the owners, Spencer, his wife, Sabrina. We got there pretty late, so there were only a handful of people left in the small, intimate restaurant. We were both starving so we quickly ordered the Sprout Wraps. I also got a Hibiscus Tea and Evan ordered a wheatgrass shot.

The Sprout Wraps were very refreshing, light and delicious. I’m not a carrot fan and while there was probably a little more in the wrap than I cared for, it was still really good. I also tried a little of Evan’s wheatgrass shot and it was also very tasty. I think I could go for one of those everyday!
For my entree, I went back and forth between a few things on the Raw Foods menu. I really wanted to try everything! While I love that Grass Root serves vegan meals, I eat vegan food all of the time. So if there is another option, such as raw, I’m definitely going to take advantage of it! At Spencer’s suggestion, I finally went with the Peace Zah Pi.

I was really happy with the raw pizza choice. It was way more flavorful, rich, and filling than I was expecting! However, I have every intention of trying the other dishes I couldn’t decide about next time I go to Grass Root.
Evan got his usual Raw Marrakesh which I don’t think he’ll be parting with anytime soon.

For dessert, we had some vegan cheesecake. SO rich, SO creamy, and SO SO SO delicious! It’s a little pricey ($7, I think?) so I don’t think we’ll splurge again on dessert. But it was so good!

During dessert, Evan and I were able to talk with Spencer about vegan/vegetarian restaurants in the Orlando area and we got a couple of great suggestions (Garden Cafe and Cafe 118, which I always forget about). Both Spencer and Sabrina were very nice and hospitable in their restaurant. They also have a great view on vegetarian lifestyles. You can read more about Spencer and Sabrina here. Overall, Evan and I just really love what they’re doing by providing fresh, organic, vegan, and in many cases, raw foods to the Tampa Bay area. If you’re in the Tampa or Lakeland area — there are two locations — make sure you check out Grass Root! Vegetarian or not, you won’t be disappointed!

I’ve never thought about Biggest Loser and WallE together, but you’re totally right – it is scarily similar!
